Pictures from Germany, France and Switzerland

Post by Fearghus Macildubh »

Hi all,
I've uploaded pictures from our last trip in Europe. These are from the weekend before we flew back to the states after 7 years in Germany.

We visted Bernkastel-Kues in Germany's Mosel valley to order wine from our favorite vinter, Herr Broesch of Weingut am Rosenburg.

Lots of cool halftimbered houses in the old part of the twin towns.

Then we went to Le Haute Konigsbourg in the Alsace region of France. The castle was restored in the late 19th and early 20th century by kaiser Wilhelm, with an eye towards historical accuracy. Unlike say, Schloss Hohenzollern, which is over the top Romantic. Anyhow, for me Haute Konigsbourg will always be the Warhammer castle because everytime I vist, the castle is covered in fog and mist. You can just imagine the Hammers of Ulric patroling the walls, on guard against the beastmen in the hills beyond.

Finally, we drove down to Switzerland and stayed in this awesome BnB run by a chef and his wife. While there, we visited le Chateau de Chillon, my wife Sara's favourite castle.

Enjoy.
Cheers,

Michael,

I was in Chateau de Chillion back in Oct. I have to say its a beautiful castle, but I felt it was dead no life to it. If you get a chance to go back to Switzerland I would suggest you visit Schloss Hallwyl. I have seen approx 20 castles in Switzerland and this is my fav.
