Swordbelt patterns 13th-14th C. ???

Post by DWolfhunter »

Anyone have a good, laid out pattern for sword sacbbards and swordbelts for SCA use? Preferably following a 13th 14th C pattern?

http://forums.swordforums.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=151842 has a good tutorial.

HEY, what happened to Swordforum? Haven.t been on it for a while. Well, there is an archival website whose name escapes me that might be able to recover the tutorial.

Your Excellency, do you mean a way to store a rattan waster when not being used?

There's not that much difference, is there? Instead of starting with a carved wooden core to wrap the leather around, you start with a piece of 11/2" PVC. Or if you use a thrusting tip, 2" PVC that's been heated and flattened beneath a weighted 2x4.

I admit it's not as pretty as a real scabbard, as we can't get that appealing taper without spliting the pipe, taking out a slender wedge and plastic welding it back together. But personally, I've never had good results with plastic welding -either with glue or with heat- so I try to avoid it.

That's the only difference. Doing the leatherwork and making and fitting the metal chape are the hard parts.

Anyone know where I can get a simple Norman sword chape?
