Persian/Central Asian armour painting

Post by Baron Alejandro »

I scanned in this pic today of Isfandyar fights the Simurgh, which shows a pretty complete set of of persian armour. It looks like a lot of armours I've seen for Persia & central Asia, all the way out to Mongolia and Tibet.

I think he's wearing a lamellar shirt, split for skirts on the thighs (like what I've in pics of Animal Weretiger. It looks to me like he's also wearing lamellar around the base of his helm, although it *could* be chainmail.

I'm intrigued to note that his sword appears to be straight.

Thoughts?

It appears to be similar to a yataghan, which I thought was later. One of the things The Kingdom of Heaven researcher learned was that the curved blades happened much later than the period of the movie.

Do you have a date for this image?
My 10yo daughter says I'm pretty!
