I am working with someone on getting som medieval chest hardware made. Strap hinges, hinges, handles, rings, etc.

What I am having problems with is finding good pictures of said items to give to the guy to see if he can make them. Varying time period is fine: Viking, 14th cent, 16th cent. I am just looking for good images right now.

any help is greatly appreciated.

I'll post tonight from my library. You should be able to pull some from ILL.

If you can lay your hands on it, or pull it throgh an inter-library loan, and you're really into the metalwork aspect, I would recommend:

Medieval Decorative Ironwork in England
by Jane Geddes
© 1999 The Society of Antiquaries of London
Burlington House
Piccadilly, London W1V 0HS
ISBN 0 85431 273 0; ISSN 0953-7163; 411 pages; $125

Available (last I knew) through Norm Larson Books
5426 E. Hwy. 246
Lompoc, CA 93436

Take a look at my review at:
http://www.anvilfire.com/bookrev/atli/M ... geddes.htm

A nice overview of the subject is: Church Chests of the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries in England by Philip Mainwaring Johnson (1907, Reprinted (c) 2001, The Caber Press, 7549 N. Fenwick, Portland, OR 97217. (~$13 when last I knew). This slim volume certainly complements the other source and gives some useful construction details.

If this and Karen's information still leaves you longing for more, I can pull some of my lighter sources for some additional details.
