16th century Instrument?

Post by Gottfried »

Hi I have a question that has absolutely nothing to do with amour. But since there are some really well informed people here I will give it a shot.

Dose anyone know what these type of Fife are called?
They are from the 16th century and were used by Landsknecht.

Dose someone knows who could make such an Instrument?

What is the source of the photo, is it from The Landzughaus? in Styria?

You could call it Der Grossarschflaut... ;)

And musical terminology rears it's ugly head *g*. Sorry, I was kinda rushed.

Renaissance transverse flute is an academic term. You'll find them on those sights listed as Renaissance flutes, Renaissance fifes, and everything in between. What you want is a 6-hole unkeyed Renaissance flute or fife, most likely alto-tenor or bass based on the length in your iconography, like these.

Try these:

In fact, if you just call Bill Lazar he can point you towards someplace if he doesn't have what you're after.
