What exactly are these men wearing? Looks a lot like a houppeland fashioned in the kastenbrust style, but I can find no other depictions of these. Was this style common? I have a lot of pictures from the time period that show typical houppelands worn along side men in very boxed shaped kastenbrust breastplates, so I was wondering if maybe this was a regional thing that wasn't very common.

I believe all the visible houppelandes there are the regular kind, more or less. It looks like the center-background rider's houpp has some padding done, and the center foreground man eschews such puffery.
The pink guys have something like a short cloak on over everything, as does the brown guy on the right next to the one in dark blue.

Not odd just German. Or is there a difference.
Dierick, one of the best ways to learn about a garment is to find as much art from a time and place as you can especially a set of images from a manuscript like that one there. Typically in the later medieval period there will only be a handful of different garment types depicted.
