In talks with the curator I may be doing some repros for the museum which is always fun. But the cool part was when he took out the 300 year old English Rum, forcefully aquired by a spanish ship that later sank. The bottles still contained air from London, replete with the spores, pollen and pollutants of the city in the 1730s.
The bottles were lined with coconut fibers, and the rum was given fish oil and lemon oil to help fight scurvy.
And I will tell you this my good friends....it was some of the finest Rum Ive ever tasted. It was clear and smooth with a fair kick, and a wonderful hint of coconut aftertaste.
My wife was then entreated to 'try on' the spanish queens dowry replete with gold chains, rings, emeralds and silver.
We took some pics on the cellphones but my wife tells she cant find them.....oh the tradgedy. Well, in any event, it was a fun trip.
Oh, and they claim to have a sword from one of Blackbeards crew members as well as a number of actual pieces with definate connections to known pirates and merchant ships.
