Camp presense question
In efforts to better my camp appearance, I am looking for a solution to the hanging of damp clothing that will fit with 14th century nobility on campaign.
Aside from a (hemp?) line, I cannot seem to find anything else. Was anything else used to hang clothing to dry?
Thanks for assistance...

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle

A clothes line works just fine. The problem is that you don't want the line as part of your immediate presence.

Kenwrec: What we run into here is the major issue with a lot of SCA encampments. Unless you are one BIG unit, you will have issues properly setting this up. Because in period, it was a _group_ who traveled together. Not 10 individual tents, each with their own microcosm, but one big group. There would have been a cooking area, barracks area, washing area, etc etc.
I think perhaps the answer you are seeking is one you won't be able to pull off "properly".
I always hang em _in_ the tent, if it's a warm enough day.. they seem to dry just fine that way.

That's what I was trying to say.

What a coincedence; I just started a linkspage on laundry.

You might also like to see some of the ways that clothing was hung over rods; there's some of that at http://larsdatter.com/sewingkits.htm (and also http://larsdatter.com/merchantbooths.htm and http://larsdatter.com/merchantstalls.htm too).

Can always count on you, Karen.
Guy and Maeryk - I was hoping that was NOT the answer...
