We know some flags were made on wool; some of the square or rectanugular flags on Karen's site are wool. We also know they used silk for flags meant to flow; however a wool silk blend will be more like a wool than a silk just FYI.

OTOH wool and silk are both protein fibers and so make a better blend than a protein and a bast fiber.

The word from some 17th century reenactors is that wool/silk blend are ideal for flags that are constantly waving....more durable in other words.
