Field Guns & My final offer

Post by mordreth »

I remember seeing a comment that Gustavus Adolphus had "My Final Offer" cast on the muzzles of some cannon - I can't find the reference, or the picture.
Anyone know of this, or have a copy of one of the guns?

"ultima ratio regum"
Tr. 'The final argument of kings.' Louis XIV of France, recognized that force is the final argument, so he directed that his cannons carry the engraving "ultima ratio regum" (1650). The phrase was adopted in the form of "Ultima ratio regis" for the same purpose which appears on cannon cast for Frederick the Great, king of Prussia, c. 1742.

"ultima ratio regum"

I always thought that that would look nice painted on the sides of our ICBMs.

Ever read the 1632 series? There is a reference to him doing that in the book.

Quote: "Nissan Maxima"
(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

Thanks to all
The french guns were enough to help a colleague out with a class she is taking, and I am going to keep digging on gustavus

I did read 1632, but I am sure I remember "my final offer" from earlier than that.
