old-new helmet!

Post by Ugo »

Hi guys,
This is one I did a while ago. Finally got the last payment so it's goingto its new home.
I'm just going to put some red picadils, & send it out.

The helm locks onto the collar like the sallet I did a while ago and is the same neck-size as the sallet. The two clients are friends, so I made them this way so they can "steal" the helmets from each other.

I'll post more pics if there's any interest. I can't seem to post them at the moment.

I hope you like these!

Uh, okay, I guess that would be alright. :?

What's taking you so long?

That is ingenious, Ugo! I like the modification to the historical design for safety purposes! Inside pics? Both helms? 8)

Ooh. Ahh.
Verrah nice.

For rapier, is it? How is the seam at the top of the perf mask done? Welded?
No possibility of slipping a thin blade between it and the visor?

Thank yooz...each and every one....

The helm was welded and then raised (yeah, I cheated)
I'll get inside pics soon,(why inside pics though?)

The fit & finish on the face plate is really tight, we tested it out, no problem... the Kennedy mystery-bullet has more of a chance getting in!!!!

I've got a few other helmets I want to post and a gun I did for a Firefly/Serenity fan. But I don't want to over do it and become ...over...bearing...

Know what I mean?

Zweihammer...I luv you and technically...yes I am a bastich!

Welding and then raising isnt cheating! A lot of helms were made with a forge welded cone and then raised from that!

Nice!

Did you do the detail work (roping, faceting) after it was turned into a cone?

The first one I did was a real fight cause I rolled the edge before making the cone.

Done on mandrel?

Gorgeous, If I ever get back into fencing I have to get a helm like that.

Actually I need a couple plume holders right now any chance you feel like making 2 more of those?

Lovely fluting and ropping on that helm. Can you show a detail of how the face cover attaches?

What are the specs on this? (Steel thickness etc.) Is this for heavy or fencing?

Either way, this is incredibly gorgeous. It makes the rest of us ameteurs who try to make leather and metal into something functional look bad.

That is super-sweet Ugo, your skills are really an inspiration.

That being said, I saw your "stick figure", and I hear it kicked your ass hee hee hee hee......

You blamed the lack of direct supervision, right?

Correct me if I am wrong here Ugo.

Niall Mór: its made of 16 ga welded and raised steel made for sca regs. fencing. The pics are not doing the beautiful subtle chisel lines on the dome flutes justice. The clasp mechanisim is awsome it opens and closes like a machine, the fencing visor pops in too easy and locks on with keyhole slots and pins.

I will be sorry to see this one leave your place Ugo.

Hi gents, and thanks as always for the kindness.

I've been busy getting Vrin's goodies ready for his Laurel ceremony. So I'll be busy for a couple o' weeks creating leathery goodness.

Yes, the helm is 16ga, gorget is a combination of 18-16ga. Made for a fencer, but mostly for use at the ren-faire and with the DHF (Zee Germanz).

And for the Plume holder, mostly done by file. The "roll" is an illusion done by giving the top of the cone a little bit of a curve like the beginning of a roll and then doing the rest with a jeweller's file.

G'night!
