Photos from Midrealm 40th Anniversary

Post by Vitus von Atzinger »

This is going to take forever, but here goes.

The mighty Dukes Cariadoc and Finnvarr de Taahe. Cariadoc was the first and third King of the Midrealm. Finnvarr was the 15th king and has fought in every war point battle of every Pennsic War EVER.

(Their mundane accomplishments are legion.)

There was a fight practice today that some guys stayed over for. Cariodoc taught a class on closed form heater. He was the first guy to ever show me anything in this game. In 1973.

We owe these guys a debt that it is hard to see how we can pay.

I will second that!

It was an awesome event. It was wonderful to be able to meet so many of the names I had only heard in legends.

A pic of my squire Ingram, his lady (who runs my House) Matilda, HRM Ealdormere Mistress Adrielle (THE MIGHTY GABE!), and her cute retainer whose name I have forgotten. Her Majesty had a puppet that she carried around all day who was allowed to say whatever HRM wasn't.

More pics.

The older (almost) the better. All certainly pieces of my past. I am sure it would have been a blast to be there. Maybe (if anyone is still alive) there will be a cool 50th to show up to.

Those freon cans are a blast. There has got to have been some Polidor stuff there... wasn't there? Maybe a bit of Knut, Albert, Marc? Not to be self-centered, but I bet there might have been a wee bit of WilValCo. stuff which I would love to see.

And more of the old folks who formed the life-blood of the early years. There has to be shot of Fern.. she has been around and active forever...

Anyway, back to posts from people who were there.

We had a recording and video taping area set up so we could capture all these Greats and the stories they have. There was also a scanner station to copy old photos and documents.

The Midrealm Historian is going to came away with a treasure trove of cool stuff.

Thanks to everyone who came out.

So, how can one get at some of this treasure trove?

Just curious... A lot of this seems to reflect an early part of my life and it would be fun to see who was there and what was there.

That is a good question.

I'll make the effort to find out what is going to happen with this good stuff.

Know that what they have now is in an unedited form and this will have to be organized.

There were two of those helms on the tables. That one had the lovely paint job. The other had a nice layer of rust all over it.

Doh! Of course!!

And thank you for the warm greeting, sir! Christian Roguespur would have been honored ;)...

... unlike Vitus, who failed on all points to make the acquaintance of and welcome the "furrin" knight in the heraldic cloak. I only found out he was at the event mid-afternoon, but by then nobody could locate him on my behalf. Just goes to show that something like this really needs to be a two-day affair (with fewer courts )... AoC

Even more artifacts. This helmet was made famous by Duke Talymar, and is an early attempt at the Sutton Hoo look.

Some early weapons. The small sword you see here caused HG Finnvarr (Steve Muhlberger the author and professor) to blurt out "Hey! This is my fuc*ing sword!" Then he was not sure because of the pommel. He kept going back over to it and quietly saying "I think that's mine...maybe somebody took one of mine and just put that pommel on it."

So I grabbed Finnvarr, drug him over to the sword and said "Did you make that?" and he was able to instantly reply that he had. It was one of a pair made for the first North Woods tournament. He guessed that he carved them in late 1969 or in Jan. of 1970.

More awesome. LOOK at those crazy, horrific rusty knee cops- they were Talbot's first attempt. The studded legs over to the right are owned by Sir Emeric Wendell, with the knees by Valerius, and were presented to Emeric on the day of his knighting.

Someone should make a scabbard for that sword, and make sure it is carried onto the battlefield with the Midrealm army and King. Never has to be DRAWN, just on the field as a relic.

More coolness. This is a metal round shield made by Duke Andrew of Seldom Rest. It is brutally heavy.
