Gladiator Styled Arms, New Design for Suspended Vambraces

Post by Pitbull Armory »

Hi there, This was a fun order to build recently. The customer didnt want a full Roman arm but just vambraces, So I made these from aluminum plates mounted to 3 leather straps with brass rivets. They are bendable and flex when you bend your arms. As I wore them I wanted to make them suspended like leg armor, to keep them off the wrists. The straps go around the thin part of the arm and the armor is hung off the back of your elbow. I put a swivel joint (AKA loose rivet) between the armor and the strap that bends when you bend your arm. I wore these around for an hour and could not believe how comfortable they were. They feel weightless and dont dig into your wrists. Theres no pulling sensation when you move at all, I was pleasantly surprised so I posted this here in case anyone else is tired of their vambraces riding on their wrists. Give it a shot I think you will like it. Heres a few pics.

Take care

Pitbull

Steampunk is a science fiction genre. Neat stuff, victorian clothing combined with the age of steam mechanics with some magic thrown in. Those arms would look cool on the sleeves of a trench coat. Even more so if they were done in Brass or Copper.

Brass cog washers on the articulation up near the elbow and the plates semi rusted with maybe some copper oxide stains...

Dammit I need to stop thinking about addons to my coat... the damn thing was too expensive in the first place :S

Looks nice Andy.

Steampunk has a cousin in what is sometimes called "gaslamp fantasy."

Girl Genius

Adventure, Romance, Mad Science -- also Airships (that I think are made of Cavorite, the anti-gravity alloy), Trilobites, talking Cats, Ferretina the Weasel Queen ("Such a nice girl!"), Big Weird Guns, Robots (some coal-powered)... Oh, just go read the thing. Did I mention they pulled down a Hugo Award?
