GWW

Post by FrauHirsch »

It was a very nice war. I am sore in odd places because I practiced S&S and spear, then took up poleaxe instead.

My husband and I were able to fight with our son for the first time. He really held his own under some pretty tough presses. We are so proud.

I very much enjoyed the St. George Pas d'Armes and the torchlight tournament went off very well. Congratulations to Fedallah who won and Karl v. Rottenburg who was given a token of appreciation for keeping a period style throughout.

FrauHirsch,

You and Sir Arion looked fantastic.

I wanted to introduce myself and say hi when you were on your way out to the field, but i was in the middle of cooking at the Gyldenholt camp and just never got a chance to afterwords.

I had a great time. The fighting was awesome.

HRM Edward had Nordwache fight with the West, so I got the opportunity to fight with new friends.

One of the most impressive fighters I got to fight next to was HRM of Outlands. At one point he and I were the only shields protecting a breech in a castle battle - and he only had a little centergrip heater.

Best part of all... Baconpalooza in the Lorelei camp on Saturday night. Cooking 5 pounds of maple cured bacon while drunk was fun!

Ilia, I'm so bummed now! You'll have to come see me some other time. Are you attending the Summergate Longsword/Greatsword tourney on Halloween? Its a very small, but fun event. I usually marshal because my hands get too beat up fighting any great weapon one-on-one. My arthritis really kicks it. I beat the hands up a bit fighting poleaxe in wars, but not as bad as a tourney.

Someone actually took some pictures of me in armor! Now I just need to get a copy and actually post it here. I always forget in the haste to the field.

I always have a great time with that poleaxe. :-)

We only had 3 shields out this war, and both Johan, 16, and Meredith, 18, were their first war ever. They really did a great job.

It was my first GWW, and I had a great time! Met lots of folks, but as always, too few. I spent most of my time doing brewing-related stuff, except for a brief cruise around the merchants and Kolfinna's memorial. Sadly, we arrived late Friday night, long after the Pas. :(

My EESB won second place, yay. :D

After all that war fighting, and the Rose Tourney (including what must have been a 10 minute slugfest with Duke Sven) I'm still sore and aching. Good times.

Thank you! An EESB is an Extra-Extra-Special Bitter. Take all of the things that distinguish an Extra Special Bitter from a Special Bitter or Bitter (alcohol & hop presence primarily) and amplify them. :)

The weather was great, and taking breaks in the shade after fighting was a treat wooohooo.
I'll be back next year myself.

~1000 pics of GWW, including the Pas, fighting on Saturday, Duchess Kolfinna's memorial, archery on Sunday, and the Valkyrie Rose tournament (in gruesome detail).
Also, someone found this in the LA Times;

30 people detailed by the LA times, including Proxus, number 27 :)

Yup, Frau Hirsch it was great seeing you again, fighting at the Pas was an awesome experience as always, and being able to fight for Her Excellency Countess Mary of Atenveldt in the Valkerie Rose Tourney was WAY COOL!!

It was really tough as to where I had more fun. Just getting to spend some time with my wife away from the every day was extremely nice too!!

There is a great pic...#4222 in around page 12 to 13 ish of Sir Rhys' daughter assisting him with his helm and then giving him a kiss. Totally on the inspiration thread I promise.

looking good Caid!

I'm sorry I missed it - work interfered at the last minute.

Sword and board rain checks all around.

As an FYI, several swine flu cases have already been identified from GWW, and several more are in the initial diagnosis phase and waiting for results.

To the best of my knoledge there is one "presumptive diagnosis". No reason to get people in a panic. If you are sick, go to the doctor.

I had a great time. I didnt get to meet many Archivers properly except having the deep pleasure of meeting Sir Luther Anshelm and Jethro de Calce des Excurtynyx (Reverend here on the archive) while visiting Sir Luthers shop.

It was a nice discussion although i damn near swallowed a fly.... Though one fly in the mouth at that site is too bad. A bit embarrassing but oh well. :)

I hope i can make it next year, and get to meet some more people!

Cheers!

GWW was indeed awesome! My recap...

Friday made gillies at the class and got to marshal for the first on the battlefield.

Saturday got squired on the battle field to Sir Basil von Koln! Fought and got my first(and only hehe) kill on the battle field, tried to hold my emotions down at the memorial but couldn't, and had fun at Oktoberfest in our Lorelei camp ;) which I was amazed at all the royalty that showed up!

Sunday watched the Valkyrie tourney and one last send off to our fallen queen at the lake before heading out.

Oh and it was my 1 year anniversary in the SCA!!!

Post-squiring... there's a couple more of you running around in armor, and of course the inevitable "Ludwig taking pictures of Fausta taking pictures" pictures. :)
