Wanted, pics of strapped elbows and knees.

Post by Halberds »

Hello members.

I am adding some brass scallop trim to a members elbows and knees.
As a favor, I wanted to strap them also.

Well I am embarrassed... as I have never strapped any.
So could you fine folks show me pics of how it is done?

The knees are soup can knees and have a pointing leather tab on top.
The elbows are plain with no strapping holes or anything.

Thank you for your support.

When I did the knees based off the brass of Sir John D'abernoun http://members.armourarchive.org/kniteb ... rnoun2.JPG I noticed that the rivets for the straps where far further forward than where most of us would place them. BUT being further forward they stay in place far better than a single strap mountedfurther back does.

On elbows I really like the strapping on German gothic elbows. You have a "Y" shaped strap on one side that continues across the inside of the cop so that the elbow is actually suspended on the straps, not touching the metal. On the other side there is a single strap. Photo taken before the single strap was added on the opposite side but it gives you the idea.

Thanks for the tips.

Do the elbows have a pointing leather tab on the top also?

No BUT they do point through the grommets set in the side. With the Y strap though they stay in place better than any other style without out being pointed to the cotte undernieth.

Take a look at the bottom of this thread:

I shot some details of the elbows and knees.

I also discussed how I got the elbows and knees to stay in place.

Ahhh very good pics. Thank you.
I see the Y-strap clearly.
Also noted is how they are attached to the elbow inside.
Jolly well done.

The elbows I am trimming look very much like thoes.
I am putting scalloped brass on the roundels.

what advantages does the Y strap give over a single conventional strap?
Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience

I would think it works just like the Y-strap on a helm.
It distributes the load across a greater area. Yes?
Also keeps it from teeter tottering.
