Does anyone know what the third reference for that drawing is? The first is a sword in a private collection, the second is Geoffrey Plantagenet's enameled tomb, and the third is "carved tympanum, c. 1125, in situ Cathedral, Angoulême". This third reference is presumably the inspiration for the armour in the drawing.

Where did you purchase the DVD? That would be much better tham all the books for limited space

I have opinions of my own- strong opinions- but I don't always agree with them.

MUCH of my library is digital:)
While it is somewhat out of date (ie needs updating horribly) you can see that it is quite large

Here is the exact reference to that plate:

I spent 30-40 mins googling "carved tympanum cathedral Angouleme" (and even added c 1125 at onepoint) but the truth is there are so many carved tympanum in the cathedral that the reference above is almost useless without more information (like the location in the cathedral:)

Sorry I dont have more but this is waaaay out of my area of knowledge.

Yeah, I just copied the text of the third reference straight from the plate notes. I had the same problem as you, sadly - the Angoulême Cathedral is apparently full of these things, and none that I saw corresponded to the drawing.
