Tell Me About These Shoes

Post by AvM »

These are woodcuts from Joachim Meyer's Gründtliche Beschreibung der freyen Ritterlichen und Adelichen kunst des fechtens, published in 1570, on which I am basing my portrayal.

In each woodcut, the people pictured are wearing the same kind of shoes. I want to know more about them.

Looks like some sort of cow-mouth to me.

Look up "Kuhmaul" (or bear paw).

It'll get you in the right neighborhood. Bear paws, though, tend to have wide toes. These you are looking at pretty much look like your generic flat-soled low-boots, with slashing.
