Best sheaths

Post by kaiö »

I was trying to price a sheath for an SCA sword and I came to this site

http://www.strongblade.com/prod/sbpt-scabbards.html

Look at the 4th point in the description. I mean yeah they look nice but... how likely is that to happen?

I love after reading the sales points so many of them are "Out of Stock"

I wonder what one couldn't sell to nerds with the promise of sex... :D

About 3/4 down the page:
The leather on these sheaths is top notch -- thick and beautifully colored. The stitching is flawless and astoundingly strong. I really could go on and on about the quality of these things, but I have to meet with my parole officer in about 10 minutes so I have to cut this short. I'll just say that to hold one of these scabbards is an enlightening experience. When you hold one of these, you suddenly understand how crappy all the other sheaths that you have held truly are.

Umm....wow.

I looked at some of their other stuff. Their leather armor "protects against LARP weapons." Because, you know, LARP weapons are just so deadly, and that piza box armor you've been wearing just doesn't protect you enough.

Of course, a lot of LARPers don't know better, and think that stuff looks cool. Heck, 20 years ago I would have thought the same thing. Amazing what a little education and a knowledgeable forum with lots of great pics from people who know what they're doing can do for a person. :D

Being a LARPer myself, I have to say.. when I wear armor, it's metal, and I've never seen anyone wearing a pizza box.

However, the larp standards on leather "armor" is so lax as to be a joke.

Seriously, fashion suede will not slow down a sword blow. Give it up.

The reality is that Larping is a game of D&D taken off the tabletop. the armor rules are very lax on materials, because there is no actual safety issue at hand.
I try and bring a little armor realism to my game, but then, half the fun for me is getting geared up and hitting people with sticks.

The "pizza box" armor thing came from their website. Their stuff is pretty and generic "Renn Fest/LARP" stuff, but their descriptions are a little bit over the top.

I agree about LARP armor. In the LARP I used to play, I've seen suede glued to football shoulder pads, "maille" with rings 1" or larger in diameter, and leather corsets (on females, of course) count as armor. (Leather doublets worn by men didn't count as armor. Go figure.)

It wasn't always so sucky. Then the nerds and chain smoking gamers came along and decided it should be like Ultima On Line but with people!
I'm glad though, all I ever wanted to do is fight and camp like a medieval person, not throw tennis balls at each other and watch idiot in a orange plastic sash flapping their arms like wings telling me they were a 50 foot long dragon.

If you buy one of Sean's scabbards I totally guarantee that you will get laid.

Someday.

Maybe.

If you're not a choad.

But totally, the Vitus scabbard will help.

Though I don't own any of Sir Vitus's scabbards, a friend of mine does.

It's excellent.

And his are custom made and designed for SCA swords or daggers.

I have a set of Sir Vitus' scabbards. I am pretty confident they're miles above whatever those mouthbreather toolboxes are selling.

At least the latex foam "Deffender" sword doesn't include the words 'blood groove.'
But seriously, is that supposed to be Defender?

I love how they claim the scabbards will get you laid. Are boffer chicks really that loose? Or just that desperate? (Don't answer that)

Looks like on sale, they are $99. Without a hanger belt or buckles.
Once you do all of the add ons and modify it to work on a belt that holds
Up to sca fighting you would have been better off financially getting a custom
One from Sir Vitus anyhow. The one you custom order not ony would be ready
To use out of the box, but exactly the colors and designs you desire.

I have not seen a poor review of Vitus' Scabbards.

and I have asked for them.

He has universal 5's, except for one guy that gave him a "good" (four out of five) on delivery time.

Literally, everything else on every review is as high as it can be marked.

Not my judgment, just his customers.

Yeah, I have those occasional financial blowouts that clean out my "fun stuff" bank account. This can create bubbles where I can't buy leather or afford to ship stuff.

I am aware Vitus make the best scabbards, however they are priced accordingly. I'll just save up my money I think.

Yeah, I'll toss in on the Vitus goodies. In just over a year I've purchased 4 dagger scabbards with belts and a sword scabbard from him. I have no complaints about his wares at all.

They look nice, and sufficiently Tolkeinish that they'll go great in some/most boffer groups.
But looking at the link again, I wanna say that the Python references were wearing a little thin. (We apologize, the writers have been sacked. The people responsible for sacking the writers have been sacked as well. Repeat ad nauseum)
