Cover Thy Self? NM Found it

Post by Amanda M »

I can't for the life of me find this article on the AA with the search function. I was wondering if someone would point me to it. I'd like to link it to the Girl's Club. At one point I saved it as a document but I wouldn't upload it or something without permission to share.

Edit- Found it.

Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience

Could not agree more. $10 in linen and a few hours with a sewing machine cure a whole lotta ills. ;) It doesn't have to be perfect to be an improvement - and doesn't take much training to learn enough of the basics of sewing to get going.

Glad you like it, although I was being a tad flip, considering I wrote it. ;-)

Dude, where the hell are you buying your Linen? Cause, if you an cover your body in $10 worth of Linen, TELL ME WHERE YOU BUY IT I WANT SOME!

Cheapest I have found is basically $5 a yard. :)

Cotton on the other hand. :)

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

Jestyr, did you ever post that article anywhere outside of the Archive? If so, can we have a link? I'd like to make sure it makes its way somewhere onto the East Kingdom wiki. Lord knows the East needs a fresh POV on such things.

Never did publish it further. I'm not really sure of other venues that I could submit it to. Suggestions would be very welcome. :-)

Before I do, I want to add one more section like Blackoak did showing how ugly armour can be underneath. I keep meaning to have someone take photos of me as I getting into armour, but it always feels like I am rushing and don't have time.

Hosting isn't a problem (I own a web and graphic design firm). lol

I have also been toying with the idea of building a website dedicated "living medievally", which is NOT intended to be 100% accurate, but rather a collection of articles that help people with the little things that can add more of the appropriate ambiance. Sort of like GreyDragon, but more of a repository for people to write articles. I'm just tired of the pickle barrel, popups and camp chairs, but I also know that people need help, ideas and inspiration.

Yeahhhh... Two yards of 60" linen pretty much does cover me... Was not thinking as I was writing about others with more copious measurements. ;)

(My current armor used a heck of a lot more than that, mind you, but I was shooting for a much higher level of authenticity than the basics. Three layers of heavy linen for a COP shell, two layers for gamboised cuisses, more for tunic, more for surcoat... But I still think most folks could do a LOT of armor kit improvement with just two yards.)
