Rules of duels on the heavy steel weapon

Post by Dmitriy K »

I here esteemed such theme: Fencing - Good and Bad Rules.I have such question: by what rules pass at you foolcontact duels on the steel weapon? What admissions on the weapon (weight, sizes)? For example at us the most widespread standard of 1-2 kgs of weight at length blade up to 80(70) centimeters.

Not sure about steel, but for SCA fighting with wooden sticks, most stick swords are between 85-110 cm, and weigh between .9 kg and 1.8 kg. The stick I fight with right now is 94 cm, and weighs 1.2 kg. You say your swords are standard 70-80 cm long. This seems very short to me, like Greek or Roman swords. Do you have any pictures of your group? Thanks.

Dmitry,

The "trend setter" in American "historical fencing" has been the SCA which forbids fencing with full weight steel swords.
Their most popular style uses Rattan sticks to simulate swords.
Their secondary style (which is what I was thinking of when I posted the "good and bad rules" thread) uses either modern fencing weapons or a weapon called Schlager (which is a blade about 10mm wide though they now allow specific blades that can be up to 20mm).
Most US groups have developed rules related to the above.
There are some who use full weight swords but these are usualy not very developed.

The one group that is exceptional is AEMMA (in Canada).
Supposedly, they are connected to (or arise from) schools in Italy.
This is their site:
http://www.aemma.org/

This is their rules:

Now, I edit the site for (and am one of the developers of) this group --
Krasnyi Kaganat

and the rules we are working up for "historical fencing" are here
