Looking for a gauntlet maker...

Post by Sigurd Fjalarson »

Looking for someone who can make this style of gauntlet. I would discuss things with them such as ways to make them safe(er) for SCA combat, such as fingers grounding out, padding or what have you.

What about the fingered Milanese gauntlets in the Best of the Hammer? Close enough?

They are similar to this design but the exposed fingertips are covered by two lames and the knuckle plate is not articulated.

The actual pattern is in Best of the Hammer Volume 3: https://www.quietpress.com/Raymonds_Qui ... _Book.html

I made one similar for Vis. Elisa's bow hand when she does combat archery. It has much greater range of motion than most mittens and much more protection than most fingered gauntlets. Since it was so unusual I was expecting the marshals to have a hissy at wars but instead they have just drooled over it and asked how to make them for their wives. Notice that I said that I made one not one pair though. I have done the paper pattern for my pair but.....

This is the best picture that I have of Vis. Elisa's (I changed the cuff to brig to match her kit but the fingers are the important part):
