A Question on Ransoms

Post by Magnus The Black »

I hope to again be accepted into the Deed of Arms at Gulfwars this year. When I participated in the first one two years ago I provided those who captured me each a bottle of my Mead (which is good stuff not some store bought or bath tub crap) which at that point was at least a year old ( I brought 3 different kinds Spiced Apple, Blackberry & Strawberry all made with documentable ingredients from various 14th century recipies). Last year I missed it due to having a child too young to attend the war. This year I still have some mead (now 2 years older) and was wondering if I should ransom that this year? I honestly don't have much in the way of funds or time at the moment but was wondering what would be appropriate for my station. I want to participate but at the same time don't want to appear cheap or chintzy.

If you are doing a deed where someone thinks your ransom is "cheap" you are doing the deed with the wrong people.

I'd have been happy as a clam to get good drink for a ransom. The best ones I've gotten are ones I could share with my lady.

Anyone that would complain about receiving a bottle of home-brewed, period-recipe mead as a ransom is an idiot.
I'd be humbled to receive such a thoughtful gift. And this is coming for a non-drinker, Magnus.

A quality product from your own hands!

Anyone would be pleased to accept this as ransom.

It may make you a sought after target, however. :)

Exactly, Guy! I'm memorizing Magnus's heraldry as we speak.

Magnus
sounds like a good ransom to me. My first Combat of the Thirty, I took a hand made knife as my ransom. Last year it was a box of Edwardian pennies struck by Derian.
