The Lysts at Castleton (April 9 - 11, 2010, Austin, Texas) is an IJL affiliate event. Scores from this event may be added to your IJL international ranking
Membership in the IJL is FREE. Your affiliation form must be returned to the secretary or hand given to the IJL Auditor attending an event PRIOR to the start of competition. All following results in IJL affiliated events are then incorporated in IJL Ranking
The Individual Affiliation Form can be downloaded from the IJL website.
ABOUT THE IJL-
The International Jousting League was created in 2004 to provide riders with a competitive and safe environment to exercise their passion for Historical Equestrian Sports.
Since then, the League has grown into the largest and most active jousting community in the modern world. The League counts 197 affiliates in 19 nations, and runs tournaments on 3 continents.
The International Jousting League is an inclusive environment. There is room for everyone according to interest, knowledge, talent and budget.
Whether you're interested in the historical or competitive side of the sport, you'll always find other participants who share your interest, and an event to participate in.
The International Jousting League- 'If it ain't fun, it ain't us!'

The only other one I know of right now is the Tournois du Lys d'Argent in Quebec in September. Info on that event will be forthcoming shortly.
Anyone can run an IJL affiliated tournament, and our hope is that others will decide to affiliate their events so a 'circuit' develops here in the US. Certainly there are a whole crop of international competitors waiting to be invited to US events, so we hope to see more IJL affiliated events here!!

Congratulations to the staff behind "Lysts at Caslteton" and best of luck and fun to all participants in the event !!!!!
The IJL Board of Representatives has unanymously voted the affiliation for the skill at arms and jousting section of the event.
This will be the first cross SCA-IJL event... and a good start to help meet each others to promote our specificities.
Cheers,
Fred

Always so far away
New England has a bevy to "theatrical jousters" who often boast how wonderful and accurate they are...
There are a few IJA and IJL Up here I guess... Jeremy O'Neil is what the IJA website says...
But I have to say that I have just never seen a jousting group up here that makes me go "WOW" like your group does.

I have approached several individuals and groups with the offer of assistance to get IJL affiliated tournaments up and running in the US. I am focusing my offers in the Midwest and East Coasts, as there seems to be a good bit of interest for tournaments in those areas.
These events could be either be SCA/IJL or independent/IJL affiliation.
If you would like to see a Historical Division IJL tournament in your area, please contact me and I will do everything I can to assist, up to and including flying to your event to offer on the ground, in person assistance.
PLEASE NOTE: The IJL has the advantage of offering several competitive divisions, not all of which require armour or jousting-
-Joust Division- Two armoured riders engage simultaneously in a fair confrontation with the goal of breaking a lance on their opponent.
Target zone, points awarded, lance and armours specifications may vary from one tournament to another according to organizer's choice.
-The Behourdium Division- Riders compete in various events where physical contact may occur. Behourdium is regarded as training for martial confrontation with other riders and does not require the use of full armour.
(Already existing : Crest melee, bareback pillow fight, amateur jousting with soft lances...)
-Skill at Arms Division- Riders compete in various challenges where no physical contact is involved. (Rings, tent pegging, quintain, spear throw, etc.)
-Mounted Archery Division- Riders compete in various types of archery challenge including standing or moving targets, multiple target courses, etc.
-Historical Division- Participants engage in a competition which calls for highly accurate recreation of specific elements of chivalric culture. Any of the divisions may be included in the Historical Division, if a high standard of historical accuracy is maintained. Sporting events may be combined with or include elements of-
- Arts : Poetry, Dance, Calligraphy...
- Equipment : Armour, Encampments, Clothing...
Affiliated tournaments can host any division described in its affiliation file. A tournament could be arranged around the non-jousting activities, and the participants' scores would still be counted toward their international ranking.
Tournaments could have different components which will be scored independently. For example, the Tournament of the Phoenix is affiliated with the IJL Historical Division. The jousting is limited to invited competitors, but the Skill at Arms is open to any qualified IJL affiliate who would like to compete.
I don't know if this arrangement is available at the Lysts event. If you are interested in competing, I suggest you enquire with the organizer.
For more information on competing in the Skill at Arms at the Tournament of the Phoenix, see this thread: Skill at Arms at the Tournament of the Phoenix

Side note : The IJL was founded with the idea that we wanted to promote and help geographically challenged competitors to join up ! We all have enough local shows to keep us busy all year, but wanted something larger... something that would push us to improve in all fields.
New England has a bevy to "theatrical jousters" who often boast how wonderful and accurate they are...
Though I know what you mean, I would still add that a "theatrical joust" CAN also be wonderful and accurate... when built in the right way.
Jeremy O'Neil is what the IJA website says...
Jeremy is also an affiliate of IJL and there are certainly several other US affiliates in your area. North east is quite represented as we also have recent addition of Jeff and Stacy Wasson. Yup I know the country is still pretty large... so is the drive from France to Poland !
Numbers are growing monthly... I 'm pretty confident that the US will be covered shortly and we can start operating more and more events.
Take on Gwen's assistance offer guys ! It's worth a try !!!
But I have to say that I have just never seen a jousting group up here that makes me go "WOW" like your group does.
Thanks for the comment. Then try to be part of the "WOW", I promise it's fun !
SIDE NOTE : We also plan to get the same success with the development of the ICL (international Combat League). Same operational procedures as IJL for equal fun for ground fighters. SCA-type of flexibility for competition format but organizer's enforced equipement specs and steel weaponery allowed.

...and that would be me. For the latest information, please take a look at our website at http://lysts.swordworks.org/
There are four divisions....behourd, foam jousting, balsa jousting and skill at arms. If anyone is interested in traveling and/or competing in the event, please feel free to contact me personally as soon as possible. There are some specific qualifications that must be considered as this is an SCA event.
