Completed Medusa Shield, with picture attached

Post by owen matthew »

Here is the so-far complete Medusa Shield I have been working on. It is acrylic, on a sprayed background.

I may return to it later to touch up, adding detail to the snakes and adding writing around the rim to make it an impreza, but I am hesitant to take away focus from the face.

It is left intentionally rough in places (especially in the shadows) to add texture to the painting and color. This is really only visible from up very close, as some of the linked pictures will show, and is invisible from about 12'' away.

Here is a link to my photobucket with more pictures and details.

It will be at Western Crown Tournament tomorrow on a banner pole.

Any critiques or comments are welcome, thank!

Owen

it is very nice,
i think adding the writinging around the rim is a great idea and i dont think it will detract from the face at all, honestly i think it would give the shield as a whole a more complete feel.
good job.

I was expecting something pretty classical in appearance. When the image did an insta-load on me I found myself yell out loud "Holy Shit" in fright. Truly.

I think you did the job... Very sick Medusa image. Very daunting.

Johnathan, Heath and Gregory thank you for the kind words.

I'm looking into fonts right now that may be suitable for this style. Do you guys have any suggestions. and possibly any example alphabets?

thanks!
