Who would like to attend a small pas?

For those of us who wish to talk about the many styles and facets of recreating Medieval armed combat.

Who would like to attend a small pas?

Post by Conrad the Mad »

I am thinking of hosting an event at my house sometime this late spring or summer. This would be sponsored by my Barony of course.
Thinking it would be a Pas d' Arms, kind of a submit your entry to be chosen to attend kinda thing. Basically open to all, but would be barrier fighting melee teams, counted blows. With perspective entrants responsible for having a close to period kit of any pre 1700 era. (proven by submitted picture with application) Appropriate banners, flags, heraldry required. Mundane items must be covered, hidden. Just a day or two filled with pomp and pageantry. (well as much as we can get with a modern two story starring down at us) I am thinking limiting to maybe 30 to 50 fighters and their families. It can be a camping event. I can provide a fire pit for bardish circle or dancing. As long as we cut drumming by say 12 oclock.
Also your site fee of $10 per person with a $25 to $30 cap will get you breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon, plus a very non medieval feast of hot dogs, hamburgers, cole slaw, potatoe salad and the like, also includes your camping.

This would take place in Osceola Indiana, Barony of White Waters Midrealm.

So how much interest would there be? sound off!

I would definitely be interested, but it would depend on the timing as to whether I could attend. Spring/summer is a busy time. :D

Vitus, I would probably reserve space for you and your lady within the house. As long as you dont mind a couple of kittys?

Also would fall be better for people? Say mid september?

I spoke with Sir Straum about this last night. Depending on the weekend, we might make a household day of it. September would definitely be better for all of us.

This sounds like something Leo Medii would be interested in as well. I won't speak for him (God knows, he's perfectly able to speak for himself; it's getting him to shut up that's the hard part :P ) but I will pass this on.

I believe he'll be at Baron Wars if you want to talk to him yourself.

As long as it doesn't conflict with jousting I'd love to come!

Well, Sept would be best, but June 19th works as well for me. It's opposite Baronial Border War in Western MI, but that's where I keep getting seriously hurt (Fully torn ACL ... broken tibial plateau knee break... etc.)

I'd much rather pack and go to a good Pas with friends.

That would be nice.
Down here in the South, I'm still waiting for it it get cool enough to want to camp a night or two.

It sounds like a great event and am sure it'll be a lot of fun.
Best of luck with it.

Amalric

ps Don't forget to post some event pics.
I have a bad feeling about this...

I might be able to do this, as I need to get rid of excess vacation time.
It's now looking like October-ish, yes?
Also, what airport would we being flying into?

You would be flying into South Bend Regional airport.

For those of you that expressed interest before still interested?
If I can get enough interest I will present this to the Barony for approval.

Otherwise I may have to run this as a "practice" with everyone signing a waiver to protect me and mine.

It all depends on date. As my Lady has to teach on Saturdays, I will be doing several events solo this fall.

It would be possible for me to have room for a rider. In fact, it would a good thing for me to have some one ride with me.

Ya think? ;)

And what ever happened to Baroness War? I miss that ;)

10/2 and 10/23 I won't be able to attend (10/2 Vineyard Raids and 10/23 It take my child to Raze a Village) I have kinda commited to (and I think Vineyard is awfully close to the 100 mile rule). Raze is a kids event, and my son wants to get authed in boffer, so I kinda said yes :D

Conrad, do you have a barrier?

I am thinking October 9th should be a good weekend for this.

Will double check with my wife to make sure we have nothing going on that day.

So for the sake of a head count who is in (tentatively or not)
That way I can pitch some numbers to the Barony.

Yes, Hrolfr, get to my place and you could ride with... ;)

Conrad,

Are you still planning to have this at your house? It was my understanding, double check as I may have been informed wrong, that official SCA functions cannot be held on private property due to legal and insurance issues......

If you'd like me to check, considering the Regional Seneschal lives in my town, 2 counties over from you, I'll gladly do so and get back to you.

Just keeping an eye out for legality as you spoke of the Barony sponsoring it....

But if it happens, I'd be interested
The fact that the price must be paid is proof it is worth paying.

If you plan for the worst, all surprises are pleasant.
