First pics of my new helmet.

Post by GuntherofOrkney »

I made myself a visored sugarloaf helmet and its almost done. I got the helmet done but just need to finish the leather drape which i am working on right now. I will have new pics comming soon but i am proud of this so I had to share.

Wow, that's nice! Superb fit. Its visored with a catch pin, isn't it? :)

That is a very attractive helm. A sporty look to it too!

Are you hiding a gorget under the drape?

yeah etching isnt the problem, its what do i want to do is the problem hehe. I wanna go overboard like i did on my corinthian but a nicer quality since i am capable nowadays. I also want it to be the hardest brasswork project I have ever done to really push myself.

Hi there, Nice work G. is the helm top done in 2 pieces? Ive never seen a helm done where the 2 top parts are front and back instead of on each side. the visor looks great too.

Take care

the top is a standard left and right half but then cut just back from center and then overlapped and rewelded together. that was my second try,the first ended up too small so I will turn it into a solid face sugarloaf some day.

That's a really good looking hat Gunther. Very nice job. I really like the leather as well, gives it a really clean look. How is the airflow though? I suppose that you will be able to just open the visor if things get too hot.

That is a beautiful helm!

Seriously though, as it's so short -- wear a gorget.

well i havnt built anything else for the full kit because I would never really make any effort if i didnt have the helmet. I do have some leather internal splinted thighs that I am gonna add some stainless floating knees to. then i will have splinted arms with floating elbows. I will make an hourglass shaped brig. then some largish should cops with some decoration on them. then some small greaves.

Overall the kits should be sporty, light and still protective.
