Archivers Going to West Crown
During the Roses, I'll be fighting 25 challenges to honor my lady's 25th birthday.
It would be a pleasure to meet as many Westy Archivers as I can while on the field that day. I'll be bearing: Argent, a Celtic Cross purpure within a bordure embattled sable.
See you on the field!

Long live the Prince and Princess of Cynagua!

I look forward to it, Dmitriy; Knoch; Tim... and I'll gladly wait to cross swords with Theodrik at Mists/Cynagua. I never (well, almost never) miss those wars. I'll be off to a good start for my little quest... I hope the Crown draws a sizable list. I'd hate to see a bunch of fighters spooked by that whole trip-to-Lochac clause....

I'm planning on going and looking forward to visiting with Alail and Dmitriy again and meeting the rest of you. Dunno if I can get myself authorized by then, but if I can I'd be honored to help you make that 25 Christian. If not I'll be on the sidelines cheering you on.

Looks like I'll have a good start on my 25! Maybe you guys can give some advice now... I haven't decided the best way to fight my challenges.
Should I just do single fights? Best two of three? Or should I do counted blows - I was thinking maybe three or five, my opponent's preference.

Alright bro... if (and that is a big if) I can find my card, and if I can find enough loaner armor to get one fight in, I would be more than happy to help you honor your lady.
If not, I will be there to hand you water and pat you on the back when you have to play our favorite game, "Catch the Bergundian"...

Chris --
Two suggestions for your challenges:
1) Hire a -GOOD- herald! Not only someone to call your lady's glory to the assembled gallery, but also to note the lineage and inspiration of your opponents. Ideally, he/she should be wearing something in your colors (a simple surcoat, a cloak, even a hat) and holding your banner (again, simple is fine -- parti-colored with the two primary colors of your arms is fine), but the most important thing is they should have a -LOUD- voice, a great sense of "shtick", and at least a little humor.
2) Hire a really, -REALLY- good bard. This is the person who will record all of the fights and then collect the true spirit of your endeavor into a song or poem that will keep the memory of this day alive for you and your lady always. The West is full of accomplished and aspiring bards. Take full advantage of this fact and put one to work. They will THANK you for the chance to do this almost as much as you will be thanking them for the work itself.
And when I say "hire" them, it doesn't have to be an expensive engagement, but it should be personal. A six-pack is not always the best thing (unless your prospective employee insists, of course *grin*). I've always found that a personal token, even if it's only a brooch you bought from one of the local merchants, can become a treasured gift.
I hope this helps -- and I wish you the best and most wonderful fighting on this special day!
Alfred of Carlyle
Knight of Drachenwald
Viscount of the Mists
PS -- If you want some really killer shtick, I can't recommend Robert of Canterbury highly enough. It's just that, to get him, you'll have to fly him over from the UK first -- though he could do double duty as both herald and bard *smile*. On the other hand, if Viscountess Wander Riordan is there and would make the time, I promise you that you will not be disappointed with her work -- and you'ld only have to fly her over from Berkeley *grin* ... -c-

Excellent idea on the herald and a scribe.
I like best two out of three fights for roses, since you get a better feel of your opponent, and a higher fighting to waiting or delivering roses ratio. Since you do have a fair number of fights to do it might be most expedient to just do single fights though. I guess it depends on your endurance, and how many fighters you have there to play with.
What's "Catch the Burgundian" all about? Who's your Burgundian?

Given the shocking discovery that I cannot just hop back into my armor and fight all day after being away so long, I think I may have to do singles... or maybe I'll end up doing singles after wearing myself down.
I'll have to see if I can get someone to round up a herald for me. I like that idea quite a bit. I don't know about flying anyone IN from Drachenwald... I think I'd rather fly in TO Drachenwald. You guys have all the really nifty event sites.
And fortunately we've got built-in bards in the house. I'll just have to apply the customary bribe. In fact, I better talk to them beforehand so they can start composing.

Exactly! I have found that a well-placed bard does more for one's reknown than the best-placed blow *grin*. Of course, the corollary to this is to never p*ss of a bard. Chaucer's aside in "Knight's Tale" was priceless!
I, for one, will be expecting you to share the story of your feat with us after the event (or before it, depending on how good your bard really is *eg*)... -c-
