I don't think it will end up looking like you may be hoping.

My suggestion is to take the 'maille' money, sell the Egg gauntlets, and with the all that cash, buy some metal gauntlets.

I think you will be happier that way.

I might have gone for that idea of 12th century had gauntlets. Covering the Egg Armor gives the appearance of the mail mittens look.

i have a friend who has a master knut rivet stainless aventail he removed from his helm he is wanting to part with.

You might also want to consider putting a thin layer of leather under the chain. I believe that's what those mittens you are hoping to emulate were lined with...

must... hide... plastic...
Overkill is underrated.
