Camp Fenby DRAFT Activities 7/9 – 7/11

Post by Cap'n Atli »

Camp Fenby is our laid-back medieval arts and crafts weekend, with sessions in June (okay; the school year ran late and schedules got crowded) or early July and November.

Here are some of the activities that we're looking at on Friday through Sunday, July 9th through 11th, at Oakley Forge in St. Mary's County, Maryland. (And folks can camp out Thursday night, too!) Camp Fenby is an official Longship Company, Ltd. and Markland event.

Bone, antler, horn work:

Basic bone work

Antler whistles (especially good for LSCo ship's officers)

Woodwork:

Wood turning basics and safety

Medieval chest construction (continued from previous sessions)

Mast step for ship (continued from previous sessions)

Fibre Arts:

TBD

TBD

Metalwork:

Small knife blades

40 pt. steel test

Case hardening tests (continued from previous session)

Basic arc welding and safety

Brass casting (continued from previous session)

Leather and Sheet Brass:

Sheath work for Hugh's new seax knife

Plus- Open forge, good advice, crab feast, songs of the crew, good company and good friends. Hiking, fishing, boating, barn repair, and other adventures are also possible for those with enthusiasm.

Since we no longer have my Mom's kitchen available, we've cut back on our brewing/cooking activities (except for the spinning chicken). Maybe if I sink a well....

Butttt Butt But---Draft Camp Fenby with no draft would only be just like a really great time of folks doing, learning, teaching and making things! The *horror*!

Thomas still stuck at 9000' in Chile but I can gnaw through the restraints tomorrow as all of my test time has been pre-empted. There are folks here who have never even heard of the vikings---though I'd admit that the portage would be a bit rough---lots of up hill; little water.
