Onyx chess set for sale

Post by Cian of Storvik »

While cleaning out some storage last week, I managed to throw away a ton of stuff I haven't used in years, But one thing I saved is a chess set hand carved from Onyx.

The chess pieces are hand carved from white and black onyx (a form of quartz), as is the chess board itself. Because these are a crystalline stone structure, they are pretty heavy as you can guess. And are nice to handle. The board (13.5" x 13.5") I would guess weighs in around 5 lbs. The kings measure a hair under 3" in height.

Below are pictures of the stock photo when it was available for sale (retail $120.00) as well as a photo from my phone's camera.

The set does not have a box, but the chess pieces do fit securely in a padded carboard box that is included. Email or PM me if you have any questions or if interested in purchasing.

I'd like to get $60+shipping for it, but other offers/trades would be considered.
Thanks for looking. -Cian

I think shipping might be almost as much as the set itself :)

But 60$, are you sure? My grandfather had one, different shape to the pieces though. And I think he paid at least a hundred fifty in the 1960s.

This looks like a good reason for someone to approach Baron Conal for a little bit of custom work.

I paid over $100 for it myself (I think it was $110-$120 about 10 years ago. Last night, I found a similar set on Amazon for $120 but it says "sold out" so I'm not sure how realistic the price is).
THe price of shipping will be steep. I'm guessing probably $30 if I package it/pad it very well, using FedEx Ground. The board itself won't fit in a flat rate box. I broke out the kitchen scale, and the board weighs ~7 lbs. and the pieces a bit over 2 lbs. So with packaging the box will probably weigh around 13-15 lbs.

I was just hoping to off-set the cost of a resin "Isle of Lewis" chess set I was looking at buying. I give it several days and if no interest, I'll see if it will go on Ebay.
