Leather arm harnesses

Post by Sigurd Fjalarson »

Sir Vitus' awesome vambrace tutorial has sparked a desire to try making a full lether arm harness, vambrace, rerebrace, elbow cop, cpaulders and all. Thing is, I've only basic leatherworking knowledge, tho I have done a decent amount of practicing my tooling.

Is there some books, or sites specifically on the production of a leather arm harness I should look at. Anything is appreciated!

Thanks

Dobson is pretty much the source. You can check out Marc Carlson's webpages on leatherworking, wherein he addresses several ways of hardening leather and gets into the chemistry. He does not have patterns for any armour - but is a very good source for shoes, as I recall.

House of the Wolf used to have some tutorial info on his website, and I don't know whether or not that has been preserved anywhere.

I don't want to speak for Dan (House of the Wolf), but I can tell you that for me, Charles Dobson is the guy I look to for "state of the art" when it comes to understanding historic leather armour.
