WTB - stoprib

Post by Lucian Ro »

This is probably an odd little purchase, but:
I'm l looking to purchase a stainless stoprib to mount on my breastplate.
I'm thinking dimensions are roughly 5" x .5" per side.

Do you have a pattern? Is this the simple aries astrology symbol with rivet points; or something more elaborate? I rember seeing one that had a bit of pierce work in a filagree style.
My local supplier only has stainless, mild and aluminum.
How heavy do you want this?
16 guage is a lot quicker to work then 1/8 with a frame saw.
Can you take a scale picture of the design/pattern?

I believe Pitbull makes them; Mad Matt used to, but will probably sell you one only if he has old stock laying around.

The stop rib on my globose is more like 1/4" thick (or slightly thicker), and maybe as much as 1/2" wide stock in the sweeping "V" shape.

What is the purpose of this? Is is functional, or just decorative?

I'll try to get more specific information as to the exact measurements later tonight.

In period or out?
In period it was used to deflect thrusts away from a joint or opening.
In an SCA sense, I'm guessing it'll be more of a decorative thing but I still like the look/idea of it.
