Hjalmrheim Armoury (AKA Hjalmr) is sorta closing.

Post by hjalmr »

I found out today that I will no longer be able to get the scrap metal from the people who supply me -meaning I will have to go out and buy steel at the normal price. This will cut into the cost and force me to raise my prices. If I have to raise my prices, I might as well make better helmets. Thus I will be closing my doors as a munition grade supplier.

I still plan to make armor, but it will be slightly better, slightly more expensive, and a slightly slower production time. I will also only be taking 3 orders at a time.

I have no idea when this switch will take place, but it will come soon. I apologize to all those who need cheap get out on the field armor and I will do my best to keep my costs down, while producing a better qaulity helmet.

Well you should love it more then because I plan to start experimenting with things I never have the time to play with -brass work, etching, blackening, etc...

Its kinda like semi-retirement where I can have some fun....

I'll be anxiously waiting pics of these new prospects.

I have a feeling even when having to purchase steel instead of scraps you'll still be able to provide better quality products at a more reasonable rate.

Sad to hear. But glad to hear that you will still be making armour. Curious though, how much will your shield bosses be?

Those will probably remain the same price, as will a few other non-helmet items like cops and gorgets. Only helmets will be effected (i think). The good news is I will be making full arms and legs.

I will always keep you in mind, even if its more loot. I hope if I ever need something I can still contact you. If you are going to make some different things I will be interested. Good luck, my friend.

Have you considered using Rough from the Hammer helm halves?

You can charge a little more than the halves cost you (probably $60-70?) and still be very reasonably priced. Plus you'd make more money in less time, help another armourer out (Cet), have more consistent sizing (which you say you've struggled with on occasion). It changes your business model a bit, but it seems like in a good way.

Or, just charge more to cover your new, increased cost in materials ($20?).

You offer a great service to beginning fighters and have been honest/reliable. It would be a shame to lose that.

Actually, I see the spun domes coming.. but also several folks here on the archive stepping up. There's more than a few of us who can and will do, but could not beat hjalmr and his 100$ stainless.

Hjalmr, how does one go about ordering? Are all the helms that don't have NIS on them in stock? What are your standard measurements?

NIS = Not In Stock.

I have 4 helmets in stock so if you send me a head measurement (around the entire head at forhead level) I will send you a link to what I have (if anything) in that size. I am not taking orders right now so hopefully I will have something you want/need.
