Battle Of Nations:Captin's meeting in Kiev

Post by seabrig »

http://www.battleofthenations.com.ua If you've seen the videos, if you've heard the hype and you are interested I want to know about it. There is a conference this December in Kiev. I've been asked to attend because I've expressed interest and I've translated some rules for them and others who have expressed interest in putting together a team seem to have fallen from contact. So for now, I am trying to put together team USA. If a more appropriate person who has the time and is committed let me know I'll be happy to give you all the details of the summit this December.

So my question: is there anyone who is seriously interested in being on an American Team. I will be gathering information about rules and regulations and a better feel for the type of weapons and combat they experience. If you are interested please send me an email, at seabrig29@aol.com
I will put together a mailing list and start sending out info as I get it.
Lets put together a great team and show them just how big we grow em here in the USA.

I am interested. I have sent you an e-mail. I have put together a kit that meets the requirements and have been training for this now for months.

aveloc and I are extremely interested but we have reservations about getting in trouble for hitting too hard.

we just cannot figure out how people can run around with open faces if this is really is full speed full contact and not pulled blows.

well of course no one wants you to hit to hard but I've studied a lot of the videos and read the rules over many times. I'm sure no one is going to let an unknown team take the field without first going through some evaluation and what not.
As for open faces. The rules also state no intentional striking of an area that is not armoured. that's how guys get away with no face grills.

Fyi, The meeting in December is not an historical event. Its a meeting of captains to go over things like rules and logistics. There are no dates set for the big event yet. that will be one thing that is discussed in December meeting.
I'ts going to be very important for me to get a close look at their kits and how they conduct themselves on the list. Then it will be much easier to report back in detail so everyone can make an informed choice.

so again make sure you send me your name in an email so I can keep you up to date.
I'm sure everyone has lots of questions and there are not a lot of answers out there yet but I hope I come back with some.

As a side note, for the Washington state folks, the flight from SeaTac to Kiev via Amsterdam (Delta/KLM) is VERY easy and far and away the easiest international travel I've done. It is also pretty key that the 'main event' be in Ukraine. The visa situation for some of the other BoN countries is a bit dicey for some fraction of the participants (Westerners getting into Russia, Russians getting into the EU), but Ukraine is pretty much open borders to the whole universe. Get your Lonely Planet guide :P For the time being, I am not up for Battle of Nations at this point :) But you all go and have fun! Take lotsa pictures!

I'm moving the discussion to the re enactment forum. I think a better place for it. also on the battleofthenations.com.ua web page is an english translation of rules.

I disagree here. Lonely planet as a guide book sucks.
Used it while in Asia, and even in Thailand it was about 12 years out of date, despite being a new printing. Closer to 20 years out of date in some places in Laos and Vietnam, including the capital fucking cities.
The guest houses it recommended as being 'cheap' were more than 15 times the average price. The guest houses it said to avoid because the owners were mean, had some of the nicest and friendliest old ladies running the joint. One in Laos, made us a dinner talking, telling jokes, then sat down to drink with us at the bar across the street. We had to distract her so we could pay the bill, we felt bad about her feeding us for free, then trying to pay for our alcohol.

Further, I wish I could find the link, but LP also got in trouble a few years back with one of it's central american guidebooks. Apparently the main writer, perhaps for Columbia, had never been to Columbia. He was just writing what his columbian girlfriend was telling him, despite the fact taht she moved to the US 15 years prior.

Well, I guess I got lucky with LP Ukraine. It was pretty much spot on re: costs and amenities, and up to date on everything in the parts of the country I was in (Kiev, Crimea). Dunno if it has the Carpathians right, but I guess this is a YMMV instance.

LOL you guys look at the birthdays of those teams?

There isn't one under 1971 with most being late 80s.
