I've never seen simple and titanium used in the same sentence before. mrks on the archive makes titanium apparel, although I think he's somewhat retired.

Sir Markus is back up and running with Ti gauntlet production. I tested out his mittens awhile back, and although I think that they are over protective, I did not run into the binding issues I had assumed would be there.

I was retired but am now working again and have concentrated on Ti finger gauntlets.

but everything I make has been flying out the door. this time I made three pairs and only one was spoke for so when I finish one of the extras I will make a better vid. the last pair I made used .080 14 ga Ti and was made for great weapon fighting. I am pretty sure I could take a home run swing while wearing them.

Ok, here to deal with the rumor I'm making Titanium gauntlets again. I made a couple of pair only because a friend got me enough metal to make 2pr. One for him... metal for me a pair. Since I had a bit of metal left over... I made a 3rd pair.
Well, Squire bought my pair... I found I needed/wanted money and sent the last pair out with Andrixos traveling around with CalontirTrim. I told him I needed $300 for that pair. Knowing that he should get a bit of commission and pay his Credit Card fees, etc. If whomever got them for $350 or under... they got a deal.
Titanium changes on price pretty drastically. I don't have a good source for the 16 or 18ga Ti I need for gauntlets. I feel fairly fortunate when I can get 2 square feet for under $100. When it's closer to $150... I add that on. Add on a 10% commission, Credit Card fees and shipping... the price gets closer to $400. (I'm a horrible business man and don't usually raise prices for "Supply and Demand".) Right now... I've got 3 people wanting a pr of Ti that already sold. But, if/when I get more metal... they are priced for what I've got in them in time and money. Maybe I need to do a waiting list...
My current "deal"/general offer... I need CP... or "Commercially Pure" Titanium. If anyone has 6 square feet... I'll make them a pr for free. The other 2 pr would be at $300 each if I have orders. If I don't and they go out for commission sales... they will be more. If it is a different alloy of Ti... it can be more. You have to be careful in what you send me. I had a nice Army Officer one time send me some TI I could not work. Not with hydraulic press... not heating it. I could not even get a scrap piece of it to melt with a 3,600 deg torch! So, be careful in what Ti you acquire. (Figured out that indestructible/unworkable was a Tungsten/Ti alloy.)
I hope this is all cleared up. I will do more looking for Ti... But, can make no promises until I get a reliable source.
And.... thanks all for the work/demand for all the stuff I make!

Ok, more misc information pursuant to questions asked. Just posting here so maybe not posting multiple times privately...
In response to is 6AL-4V acceptable...
It is acceptable... it's just a bit more of a bear to form. I used it when I can't get any CP. (I recognize that some of the harder to form Ti I've had could have been of unknown alloys.)
Any CP... the numbers just refer to if it's been "hardened" or not. The quote from a book I remember was something to the effect of , "Once Titanium reached over 800deg F... it starts bonding with the Oxygen and Nitrogen in the atmosphere and hardens." Anyway, it doesn't matter when I'm heating it red hot to form anyway.
On the question of what thickness...
(Andy opinions only, I'm sure some folks would disagree)
16ga is optimal (.063, i.e 1 divided by 16). It is thick enough that if you want to sand off the hardened scale (dark to greyish flat color on CP, yellowish on 6AV, sometimes more of an oil on water combo of color on some unknown TI I've worked with). Anyway, if you sand off the hardened scale... you can get them back to silver color
18ga is doable (.056, i e 1 divided by 18). I'd leave the scale on this to strengthen the gauntlets.
20ga will still pass inspection... but, I advise against it. The Gauntlets flex side to side enough that I think you could get a finger/hand broke by a greatsword and the gauntlets would still look the same. And God-forbid you don't have the padding and straps adequate to keep your fingers inside the gauntlet.
On rolling and roping the cuffs...
Yep, first one I did was actually 16ga TI. Mainly did it to prove it could be done. Which... is how I started making TI gauntlets. A couple of folks had told me it couldn't be done.
On aluminum gauntlets...
Yes. I don't do them often. Again, I can't guarantee them forever like the 16ga Stainless. I normally use road signs... but, will make them from some Aluminums I've been sent (some where too hard and split.)
18ga stainless gauntlets...
Yep, lighter, and again, I can't guarantee them forever... but make them.

Normal sizes of Small , Medium, Large are in stock. Size chart on the website.
Custom Orders...
3-4 days currently.
I've not had this many emails and questions on gauntlets in some time! I hope I've answered all the questions. Now, back to the shop to complete couple of 14ga SS helmets ordered last night.
