Period woodworking tools

Post by fungi forge »

Hi Everyone

I have up some period woodworking tools. Most where based from Viking finds but cover a fairly wide time line.Everything is handforged and anything that is welded is forge welded. And everything has been hardend and tempered. You will need to supply your own handels.

Curved drawknife
Price $45 Size 4.5 inches wide
Used for hollowing. The ends of the handels are designed to be clenched into the wooden part to hold it on. These have different angles than modern ones so they do work a bit different.

Elbow Adz
Price $45 each or $80 for both.
Size: gouge 1 1/2 wide X 6 long the other is 1 1/4 wide X 6
These are a lighter duty adz they would be good for a hand adz.(bowls trenchers cleanup) Not hewing logs. They look rough hammered but so did the originals. The working edges have been polished tho.

T-ax
price $80 Size 12 3/4 X 6
I based this one from the Bayeux tapestry. Im offering it with a highly reduced price. It ended up with a couple of problems. When it was hardened and tempered it warped a little and developed a small crack. It is still useable and i took it out and tested it several times. The crack isnt getting any bigger. It would also be good to make into a polearm.

Dot and circle tool set
Price $65 sizes 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 the shortest one is 3 inch and the longest is 4 1/2
I tested them with a hand drill and im sure they will work fine in a bow drill.

the first piece is properly termed an inshave (or possibly a scorp), not a draw knife.
