Gentles,
This weekend is the Drachenwald Arts and Sciences Fair. Gentles will be coming from all over the kingdom to gather to improve their arts and sciences efforts.
This is a kingdom level event with (as far as I can tell) NO FIGHTING AND NO FENCING. Worry not, oh valourous Head Clobberers and Deep Thrust Artists! You can still bash, whack and stab the dickens out of somebody this weekend!
Our Local SCA fighter practice is held on Sunday. We are pretty close to the event site (by Drachenwald standards) and I would like to invite all SCA fighters who might want to attend to come. We are "On the way" if you happen to live in the northern secions of Europe.
Our local fighter practice has recently gone to a "drill heavy" format, and our attendance is up. Fencers are coming out of the woodwork, and a whole bunch of new guys and girls are discovering the pleasures of swinging a stick.
I am supposed to be running the drills, and I am not from a drill heavy fighting tradition. I learned to fight at a "total immersion" fighter practice. New guys were expected to put on armour and get clobbered a lot. Because of this, I am not positive that I am doing the drills correctly. I am getting positive feedback.
In addition, our fencing program is one of the best in the kingdom. We have a regional fencing marshal, and some other excellent resources.
I would particularly like to get gentles who have never been in armour before. I find that we learn more from the feedback of folks who consider themselves "dancers" or "housewives". I even learned some important things recently from a person who considers herself a "horseback rider". Insights frequently come from sources that are not fighters.
Armour is not required for the "dry drills" and we have several (many) sets of loaner gear that are available IF YOU CALL AHEAD.
If you need more information, or if you are willing to come on some other weekend, please e-mail me at

We also practice in a local park, where European College Students frequently sunbathe. And afterwards, we go to a lovely pub where both Guinness and Delicious German Beer is on tap. Food is also available at the pub.
Hopefully,
