after a year and half off, some new videos

Post by dukelogan »

i put up a couple of videos from some pickups i did last month and some very raw stuff from a demo i attended. at the demo the tape ran out a few fights before my ankle blew up which sucked because i really wanted to see what i did wrong when i stepped. they say that fighting is like riding a bike but i felt so slow and sloppy.
anyway, im trying to use an avi format now instead of wmv because the quality is much better. the file size, however, is much much larger and i dont think windows media player can play avi files so they may not stream. if anyone takes a look at them let me know if you have any problems with the file or if you think the increased quality isnt worth the increased size. they are listed right under the knightings and the training videos on: http://www.ebonwoulfe.com/fighting.htm

So what program should I download to be able to watch the video?

well I always have issues getting stuff from your site to load (takes forever) but this is certainly worse. I have been waiting on these two to download since about 9am. It's now 12:22. I have a pretty fast connection as well.

Hmm. Weird, I Saved As both of them onto my computer here at the office, but the download instantly finished, with a 0 Bytes file size.

Can't seem to stream them either.

Sorry to hear about your ankle man. And really...you equated 'gently tossing a ball' in January to mean you could start flatsnapping the sides of people's helms in beginning in Oct??

I know how much you want to get back in action, I just hope you don't overdo it. But then, this is coming from a guy who just dislocated his shieldside shoulder again taking a tumble down the stairs after tripping over his son's legos...and yeah I'm planning to fight in the tourney this weekend.

So take it for what it's worth! :D

Agreed. At least put a file size next to the link so we know what we are in for. 589MB and counting...

Raw video files are huge. I'd suggest using a codec of some sort to help keep file sizes down.

File size is zero, indicating a failure of the codec to produce the AVI format.

It's alarming how similar my style is to the Ebonwulfe style. I always forget to tell people to do that ring finger/pinky-grab snap.

ok, ive switched them to .wmv although the file size seems to be similar. the .avi looked way better on my system.

i use windows movie maker which seems pretty straight forward and is a simple interface. again, please let me know if it doesnt work.

i will begin capturing some of the older stuff i have around the first of the year. it might be interesting as i have a bunch of champions fights from pennsic and gulf wars over the last 20 years as well as some tourneys from both.

The new size is better, but you still may want to look at codecs to reduce them further. The quality loss may be worth the greatly improved download times.

That said, it sucks that you lost the last part of the demo. Some of the fights you, Brion and I had at the end were by far the best and most interesting. I think it was you that even commented that the audience really got to see us smoking some rattan towards the end. There was one you and I had towards the end when we were bear pitting that was pretty damn good.

Oh, and you are right, my shield work was sloppy. I need to work on that. Also I am bouncing too much when I throw my off side and not committing to my mulinet (which could be fear of damaging my repaired shoulder). I've never really taken video of my fighting; it is a good tool.

yeah normaly i hate the smell of burning rattan but when you and your opponent throw at the same time and the swords hit like that, well then the smell is cool! 8)

running out of tape is not something i normally do, the tape that was in the camera was almost full already and i just didnt check.

i guess my fear on file size has to do with what i use video for, a training aid. when i watch it on my computer its not as important (27" led screen) as when im watching on the 50" plasma. if the quality goes too low the screen looks terrible to me and is distracting. i could put them up as .rar files. im just not sure how to do any of it with the software i have.

I would keep the raw files for when you look at it on your TV, but since most of us will be looking at it on the computer, I wouldn't worry about it and embrace compression as your friend.
