WTB Leather lamellar plates

I know Tandy has them but they are like a dollar a plate at the lowest price.

Does anyone have a good source?

I got a scale punch I use on my scrap that works rather well.

cut a piece of pipe in half .. weld on the back [ chunk and your home free.
my scales are about 1 3/8 wide 1 3/4 long.

You could just get a side of leather and use a strap cutter, a razor knife, and a punch/drill. Super time consuming, but it might end up cheaper and you could make them whatever shape you'd like. I've been meaning to do this myself sometime. I'm rather unsure of the historical accuracy of leather lamellar though.

There is plenty of evidence for leather lamellar. Just not in Medieval Scandinavia The earliest examples date to the Warring States era in China. A later example was found at Dura Europos and is the only confirmed find of Roman leather armour.

I am doing it all by hand..get a pair of aviation snips at Walmart. I am using 7oz. Two layers boiled in wax gives great protection. It is a little lengthy process. Here is the style of kit I am going for. End of Roman era in Britain.

a pair of Wiss snips,
a punch (I like the Whitney Jr type punches for this)

and you can make them any size and shape and pattern you want

You might try droping a note to anyone that does leather armour.
They usualy will cut a deal on scrap pieces.

I helped a fellow make leather lam... we used a strap cutter to make strips. Scissors to trim and shape. Then we hardened in an oven.

It's very effective armour... sometimes too effective.
