welding helmet
A few months ago someone posted about making some sort of medieval looking welding helmet, kinda forgot the details. Either way I've been in the process of designing my own. Is there any coating or paint that I could put on it to keep any splatter from sticking to it? I should begin work on it tues so I'll have pics up then... It's just that I'm rather unhappy with the rather mundain styles that they have on market...
Re: welding helmet
There's anti-spatter spray, but that's usually kind of poisonous, personally I wouldn't want it on my welding helmet. If the steel is well buffed, less (though not none) spatter will stick to it. A really thick coat of paint might do the trick, letting the spatter cool enough not to stick before it can burn through the paint, but that will end up just as ugly after using it for a while. Making it out of something other than steel would likely improve your odds.

Re: welding helmet
You realy should not have any spatter to worry about unless your welding in over head position.
As for paint probibly a standard high temp like you would find for repainting a BBQ. The color options are a little limited though.
What lens are you building this around?

Re: welding helmet
Black is just fine for me. I'm building it around a lincon electric auto-darkening lense. I'm planning on making it look vagely skull-like, and I'm gunna work in steel, prob 22g and do some brass highlights... I just got the base pattern done, so I'm gunna start work today after I get back from a funeral... and I do a lot of under car welding, seeing as I have an 85 super beetle...10 years in a field didn't sit too kindly with it... I'm also planning on putting in some lighting...maybe...
