The Birka/Khazar/Rus connection

Post by Halvgrimr »

Ive been tracking down some info for a friend and for those folks using the Khazarian/Rus pieces found at Birka as a way to connect the 'Vikings' with those cultures you might find this work of interest:

The Oriental Mounts from Birka's Garrison: An Expression of Warrior Rank and Status by Charlotte Hedenstierna-jonson (Author), Lena Holmquist Olausson (Author), Margaretha Klockhoff (Contributor), Malgorzata Wojnar-Johansson (Contributor)

The conclusions are interesting:)

I read one of Hedenstierna-jonson's papers. I believe it was her Phd paper. It's a good solid look at the finds from Birka and the implcations thereof. Pretty interesting stuff indeed.
