Time & day for Pennsic Novice, Squires & Greybeard tourneys?

Post by Sean Powell »

Hello,

I have been asked by a member of my household for the day and time for the Nove, Squires and Greybeards tournies at Pennsic this year. She thinks that anything published anywhere within the SCA must automaticly be loaded directly to my brain. That's almost correct but it only applies to things published to the AA. :)

Anyone have any ideas on the times and days for these tourneys? If not is there an estimate for the schedule will be posted?

Much appreciated
Sean

Be patient. I haven't even heard back if my tourney idea has been accepted or not. The deadline for getting them in the booklet wasn't that long ago.

I'm comfortable being patient until the day of the tourney. Certain members of the household will not make it to all of war-week and need to settle with their bosses soon about which days they are and arn't taking. They just want to optimize their experience. I'll just tell them it hasn't been decided yet. Maybe they can push-off committing to specific days yet.

Thanks!

Vicondessa Isabella is doing the scheduling this year... as well as Battlefield coordinating and Deputy Marshal in charge of the battlefield.

I regret to report that the Greybeard tourney won't be happening this year. I learned this from Syr Bear rather recently. His household has another obligation, and he didn't want to spread them too thin. He does intend to hold it again next year (unless he finds someone else to hold it in his stead this year.)

I was just about to post this info - will give specifics there.
Pennsic Known World Novice Tourney - Saturday Aug 6th (middle Sat) at 10 am - tourney area.
Please make sure you have yourself inspected prior to tourney - only those that have their Pennsic helmet sticker will be permitted to enter - per Pennsic rules.

I've received word this weekend that the Greybeard tourney will be happening, but the details weren't hammered out until after the deadline for the book. Syr Bear has turned it over to Sir Sextus Plineus Callidus and Count Master Ruslan for this year and next. Unfortunately, I didn't hear when it will be held.

Yay!

Bummed me out that 2 years ago, I didn't qualify by 2 weeks. Last year was the first year I missed since 1986. Then word that it wouldn't be held this year! Glad that isn't the case.

Yes you must be 50 or older to enter the Greybeard tourney (proof required at the MOL table).

What day is the Greybeard proposed for? I have fought in it the past two years and I want to do so again this year but I'm trying to schedule something else during war week.

still waiting on word from the pennsic folks on that. my clan brother sir theron will be in charge of it this year as esa and i are not able to make pennsic due to our daughters supposed due date of aug 5th. being impatient, like her father, she decided it was time to come this tuesday around 10am. 6-7 weeks early but she is doing well for a 3lb little scrapper. :D

theron and/or i will post something as soon as the time/day is told to us. my hope is that it will be right after the town battle on monday as that is early in the week and after the unbelted melee. i hate not being there for this but we are a tad bit busy at the moment. will update here on the archive as well as the common posting to the sca chiv list for further postings to each kingdom.

regards
logan

Welcome to fatherhood, Your Grace, and sincerest congratulations to both you and your lady wife. Best wishes to the little one in surmounting any premie issue that might arise. I'm sure she will be every bit as ornery as her father.

I really am curious when this squires tourny is... I am trying to schedule my pennsic. Hopefully it will be Tuesday after woods battle.

I hope it will not be Tuesday after a woods battle. Because no squire should have anything left after that res battle. I want to see the unbelts fresh and ready to go. After the afternoon battle on Monday would be ideal because it is still early in the week and the two battles scheduled that day are just not the kind of grind that a good woods battle is. I am willing to guarantee that if you fight with Atlantia in the woods on Tuesday, you will not be excited about a tourney afterwards.

Fair enough. I saw those two Monday battles and assumed they would together be at least as tough as the woods.

Are there two battles on monday or just one. I can't make out if that second battle is for the fencers or the armoured fighters?

In correspondence with the battlefield coordinator, she told me that the second battle is for rapier.
