LTB- Large emrboidered patches

Post by MJBlazek »

Does anybody here have the capabilities to produce some larger sized embroidered patches?

I am looking for some to put on a new jupon.

I would need 2 golden Stag heads. 6 five pointed stars, and two trilliums with red petals, green leaves, and a gold center.

The Trilliums need to be about 7 inches tall.
The deer heads 5 inches tall, and the stars 3 inches tall.

Thanks!

This is just a suggestion based upon my experience, but I think you might want to do applique if they are in those sizes. Patches in those sizes are not only going to be costly, but they are also going to be very stiff.
I'm just guessing but it sounds like you want to do some livery (?).

You see large patches of that size (6"+) on the center of backs of modern jackets, but the center back is an area that doesn't have a lot of movement and stays relatively flat. If you're looking at putting them on the shoulders, left/right breast, thighs, you might want something either smaller or something like an applique which will not have a stiff backing to it, but just be fabric.
Appliques can be very fancy, though they will not look like embroidery.

I would be open to hear the pricing of anyone who does applique as well.
The quality of what I want is not something I can do myself.

I can do up to a 4.25" x 6.75" (maybe a little wiggle room over that.) I can even make embroidered appliqué so it is not overly stiff. I can sew it onto a competed jupon (if you want to mail me your jupon to do so) or give you complete instructions on how to add it yourself.

I normally charge $10+$2 per color for machine embroidery work, with an additional $2 for working with metal threads. I might be able to give you a bulk discount, but it would be taking into account that a few of those pieces are rather large.

PS. some of my embroidery work can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=134061 or I can provide more pictures if you desire.

MJ, you might want to reach out to HG Isabella. She has been doing this sort of thing (not sure of this large a scale or not) for a few years now.

You may want to contact Silver Griffin shirts, who is run by two longtime SCAers. (Duke and Countess of the West) They do great work, and have been around the SCA forever so can make suggestions as to what will work on your project. Here is their info...

Edit: Forgot to mention they do all sorts of embroidery besides the T-shirt business, hence the recommendation.

Stags are embroidered. Size is approx. 12" wide, 14" tall. I can get anything I have artwork for. They are not ruinously expensive, but they are not cheap, either.
