I'll look forward to it (and I also hope Meridies honors us with their assistance on the field)!

A thousand times no. This is the exact model that I suffered a ruptured testicle in. This is unsafe for what we do. You may have not had a problem with it thus far, but it doesn't mean that the soft flexible sides are ideal for what we do.
Please PLEASE don't use this model. Please use something rigid.

I use a Nutty Buddy.
This video was interesting.

After watching the video, and seeing the comments here on the other cups (yes, I own one of those other cups shown on this thread, no problems...yet...) I'm buying another Nutty Buddy, and using my other cups to design plastic armour as loaner armour. Maybe use them as pauldrons?

1:30, 2:35 or so, and around 4:30, lastly the shows host at 8:10.
Also, pay attention to what Littel is wearing, it's integral to how a nutty buddy works best.
Interestingly, iirc the show as it aired had more footage of other brands deforming, this one appears to have been cut down.

Re: Protecting the boys
I wear Bike performance elite compression shorts with a separate jock and a bike cup in between. This is THE most comfortable setup I have ever worn, including the nutty buddy, various hockey girdles, football girdles and a few others over the years.
The problem with most pouch designs, is that the pouch holds the cup not the boys. If you look at a cup in a pouch, you'll see that the fabric is taut across the inside, leaving no space and pushing the cup away from your junk. The compression short, cup, jock setup makes room for everything. I have taken slapshots to the boys in hockey games with this setup without even a flinch, although everyone else thought I was going to need a stretcher.
Cheers,

Any suggestions on supportors for 48+" waists?

I built a bigassed fauld on my armor, and never wore a cup.Ottarr wrote:Mabey it's my lack of childhood sports, but I've yet to find a comfortable way of protecting the family jewels... I've tried traditional cups, as well as a nutty buddy. I've tried floating it between layers, as well as putting the plastic in garments with a "cup pouch". But things always tend to shift and eventually pinch.
So I ask you... what works? From the skin out, what garments are used in what order to prevent shifting?
My wife thanks you for your input.
Might I suggest you look towards real, adult sized cups? Lacrosse or Hockey cups tend to be.. uhh.. more made for "real humans" than those breath-mask looking things most sporting goods stores sell.
Re: Protecting the boys
WEAR A JILL!!! even a heavy leather hardend V shaped peice that covers the pubis symphis ( the bone above and behind the business end of girl bits) will save you some serious undue pain. that bone while separated with cartilege for child birth does NOT feel good when separated by a nasty wrap shot. Ive had two female squires who both went without until squired to a lefty knight.Livia Tasia wrote:What about female cups? Any insight on those?

generally something custom made to fit well is the best option but regular Jills work just as good.

Re: Protecting the boys
I use this kind of cup. The first thing I do is tear the rubber off of it. I wear a pair of underwear 1 size small then a jock strap (no pocket) one size small. Tuck everything up nice and tight and slide cup between underwear and jock strap. I have used this system for 25 years for SCA combat and muay thai. I have had one cup broken and no injuries from cup shots. YMMV.

Re: Protecting the boys
As I think about it, I must lead with my crotch a lot because I've taken some serious blows there (uh). I've had the following set-ups...
Traditional 80's plastic cup in a jock-strap over underwear - Just like peewee baseball taught me, this sucks. It doesn't really cover you well from shots coming upward, and the edges of the cup dig into your thighs. Basically, take a baseball to the front and you're fine, but get toe-kicked between the legs and you'll be crying.
Pseudo-medieval contraption made out of a traditional 80's plastic cup, padded all over then covered in leather with an added foam section along the top, stitched together, then worn over pants - Master Aaron of the Black Mountains kitted out half of Lions Gate in these, and they work pretty well due to being a bit more like a hockey goalie cup after modifications. However, I had mine cracked into three pieces by the Baroness of Seagirt. It hurt a bit, but the leather held it all together and the fact I had pants under stopped from pinching injuries at the moment.
Tae Kwon Do Sparring Cup - By far the most comfortable between your legs and provides plastic protection all the way down. The downside to these is that every now and then one of the boys may sneak out, and the rigid protection doesn't go that far up the front - meaning you can take a shot to the phallus with nothing but some closed-cell foam and faux-leather between you and that rattan. That hurts.
I will say this, DON'T use a cheap, BIKE or other crappy plastic cup. I've seen and suffered too many cracked and shattered cups over the last 15 years of fighting. Truly. Also, buy and keep two. Too often folks forget to toss their laundered cup back in their armor bag on the way to practice or war and you see them standing around trying to decide if it's safe to fight without one or tape some random piece of plastic to their shorts. Don't be that guy.
My current martial arts cup is about worn out so I'm ordering compression shorts, a Nutty Buddy, the Shock Doctor metal cup, and I'll see what seems most protective and comfortable.

3rd on the goalie cup. Take clappers all the time to the boys, and the only ice involved is the kind I'm skating on.

Warning: May be TMI. If so, I apologize, but I feel it is relevant.
I wear compression shorts which holds everything in one place, and then wear a second pair of compression shorts (containing a cup pocket) over that. It worked great at Pennsic last year, even though I had a vasectomy three weeks prior(which causes minor swelling and makes everything more sensitive for a while).

Compression shorts, then another pair of compression shorts with a cup pocket. Use a Nutty Buddy. The cup pocket has the slit cut in the bottom for the tail of the Nutty Buddy. Stays in place, works great.
