1379 The Order of the Crown
Hi All-
I'm trying to find additional information beyond what is in A Distant Mirror on the Order of the Crown. Tuchman lists two or three documents in her citations, all of which are pushing two hundreds years old - I was hoping for something either primary, or much more recent if possible. I've struck out on JSTOR.
Thanks in advance.

I have a book on various european orders prior to the end of the Napoleonic wars. I'll see if I can find it. It's fairly short usually giving how an order was founded, who could be in it, when it was dissolved, etc.

Great, thanks! If it has any references that I could follow up with I'd really appreciate it.

Tonight is Bad Movie Night so I won't get a chance to hit the books till tomorrow evening.
I wish I could remember the name of the book; one of the oddities found in a rural town in NM at the fleamarket or thrift stores.

The Order of the Lion was an order of knighthood set up by Enguerrand I of Coucy (or, according to other sources, his son Enguerrand II), to keep alive the memory of his killing a dangerous lion. It was short-lived and was forgotten after its founder's death. His successor Enguerrand VII founded the Order of the Crown in 1378 - Gustav Ackermann mentions the two orders as among the historical orders of France.
I googled Order of the Crown 1379 and found a bit more information via Google books.

I looked through 6 bookcases before coming into work and didn't see that book I mentioned. may mean it's "in play" in the house. Sorry!

I just finished Knights of the Crown if you want it.
