FS -- Leather Ringmaille and Gambeson

Post by Hallbjorn »

I'm still clearing some stuff out to pay for and make room for new armour.

First I have a Ringmaille Jack made by the guys at Merc's Tailor. It's "custom" in that it's light grey swede as opposed to the standard brown or black that they offer. It helps that I'm good friends with their leather specialist.
I bought it after losing a bunch of weight, but then put some of the weight back on, and now it doesn't really fit. It's also not really for the time period I'm shooting for. I'd say it'll fit up to 54" chest, but is designed for someone smaller (say 50"). It has gussets on the sides to allow it to expand.
Merc's Tailor gets about $400 for these. This one was never actually used. I'm looking to get $300 for it. I'll pay shipping within the 48 States.

Next is an Ice Falcon gambeson, size XXXL (up to 60" chest). It fits but I have a custom gambeson now that I like more. It's never been used. I bought it on sale for $90 plus shipping. I'm hoping to get $80 (plus shipping). Despite how it looks in the picture, it's red, not orange.

For the record, this is the same as the ones that are on sale right now for $150, so $80 is a real steal. I'm starting to wonder if I actually only paid $90, or if that's just what I told my wife. :)

Thank you,

I'm really looking forward to receiving the crusader. I have a major sanding/polishing & embellishment project planned for it.
Is it mild steel or one of Hjalmr's stainless works? I only ask so I know how many cobalt drill bits to order....

I'm pretty sure it's mild steel. I took a polishing scrubby to it to clean it up a bit and it worked ok, as did the bits I used to drill a couple small holes for the chin strap. Seems like it's gotta be mild steel.

Looks like shipping would run about $10, or $15 for priority.
I'm not sure how you want me to measure how thick it is. It's not like a winter coat. It's quilted, so it's thicker than a sweatshirt or a normal shirt, but I wouldn't say it's like a comforter.

what I am asking is it's Icefalcon's standard arming coat, not his new light weight one?

Ahhh! Yes. It's an arming coat, not one of his lightweight ones. It's quilted/padded. That's kinda hard to tell in the picture.

Last bump for Ringmaille before I try eBay.
With me paying shipping, I'm basically selling this for $250 now, as I expect shipping to be around $50, considering the shipping weight will be around 30lbs.

Got the Helm delivered today.

Popped it on my 24" melon w/o padding and my nose was squished into the faceplate.... LOL!

Fortunately, I can fix this by sawing the nasal off & splitting the face plate along the center crease. I'll take some strip steel and form a cross to add to the helm, replacing the nasal and letting out the faceplate an inch or so. I also have a short thick neck and it may be a tad too long.... but that can be fixed as well.

We'll see how it pads up but even then it might be too small, for me, but would be perfect for a person with a 23" melon.

I want folks to know, Hallbjorn was great to deal with. Up front, honest & communicative. A person I'd trade with or buy used gear from again.

Although the finish is rough, there's a few minor misalignments, overcuts and areas that need a lil planish.... These Hjalmr helmets are worth more than he charges and was THEFT at the price Hallbjorn offered it for.

Thank you
