Is there still a fighter practice at Kandahar AFB?

For those of us who wish to talk about the many styles and facets of recreating Medieval armed combat.

Is there still a fighter practice at Kandahar AFB?

Post by Halfdan »

I'll be arriving this winter :D

Also, should I leave my nice gear at home?

Thanks,

If you fence, bring that gear. If you only fight heavy, don't bother. There is still fencing practice there. When I left the schedule was Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 2130ish on the stage at the Boardwalk. Look for a Canadian civilian resembling Henry VIII (John Moran), and a shorter US Navy LtCmdr (Gregory of St. Albans, former Baron of Rivenoak, West Kingdom). I understand more people come and go periodically, but as to their descriptions and frequency of attendance I have no idea.

As for whether to bring the nice stuff. I don't know what your lodging situation will be like but John had his Darkwood out there and never had any problems with it. With the utter lack of humidity it actually made maintenance a good deal easier.

Thanks for the info. I will try to get a heavy practice started. If not, I think I'll order some nice foam swords from Calimacil and have some fun smackin' about in the desert with my battle buddies.

I just arrived at KAF last week from Frontenac, I think I am here for the stay. I'll be coming around and see if practice is still happening!

I linked up with the guys last night. Gregory leaves in a week and John in two. They mentioned handing the loaner box key off to me to try to carry on practice.
If I can locate some fighters I would like to make practice earlier since it isn't as hot now. I think it would be more convenient and maybe more visible so we can recruit some new members.
If you know any Scadians at KAF, please have them email me at: sapperssgkelley@yahoo.com

Hey all, especially Halfdan. I have found some SCAdians, two are actually heavy fighters. They don't have their gear here but I'm sure they can get it if need be!
I am going to try to teach them the finesse of swishy poke fencing!

If you fight heavy, get some rattan sent .. a couple pairs of hockey gloves and a cup. kevlar helm and body armor with goggles work just fine for body armor. there are more than enough young infantry guys that will buck up for a beating:D we had tournaments for snickers bars at COB honiker-mirical in the pech river valley kunar provence.
