Atlantia’s Fall Crown

Post by WilliamThomas »

With Atlantia’s Fall Crown just a little over a months away I figure there is no better time to start chatting about it and share all of the juicy tid bits we have gathered over the last few months.

I will start, while ordering my lunch the other day at Taco bell, I over heard that our own Brother Amos was fighting in this crown… and he would take the field armed ONLY with the shield of faith and a cudgel of righteousness.

Truth I know you are close to the source can you confirm? What about you Insidermundo can you use some of your… inside sources to confirm?

Scoops on the scene and livin da dream!

I heard a rumor that only short-stem-on-side blows from 2"-diameter rattan swords delivered at A range to the face need be considered telling. Of course, I was very drunk at the time.

I thought this was just the standard Atlantian calibration...

Factually, I said nothing of calibration, only of technique. I used one of those lovely falchions at Pennsic and it was nice not having to hit anyone twice.

"Here we are my friends at the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, step inside, step inside!"

Ah it's the return of my favorite Bi-Annual Event, the Running of the Bulls...wait, what?

While the format for this Crown is to be the same as last crown I hope that we won't see the return of the Suuuuper-Seceret Hidden Crown List. Obivously I enjoy our banter but I think it builds excitement for the event.

I know that Their Majesties really want to see a large turnout this Crown. The site is Central enough for sure and they started handing out very nice invites to Unbelts at Coronation. As His Majesty said, ANYONE can fight in Crown and everyone should. Squire should fight to test their mettle on the Anvil. Knights should fight to protect the realm from the possibility of a Bad King.

As His Majesty said in Crown, just because you are an Unbelt and didn't get an invite, it doesn't mean they don't want you to fight in it. His Majesty said "If we have not called your name, it is our failing, not yours. Enter Crown and show us why we were wrong not to include you."

And that, as they say, is:

Stetsons, cowboy boots and a THONG, get it right there, Boyo!

I think that you can change the Stetson to a Fedora, but then you have to fight Whip and Gun, just like Indy.

Is anybody else old enough to remember when you couldn't get knighted in Atlantia unless you sported a mullet?

From Their Majesties:

"Unto Our Barons and Baronesses, worthy Peers, and Our true and noble subjects do Cuan and Padraigin, King and Queen of the Atlantians, send greetings this 28th day of September AS XLVI. Know that We intend to to cause to be held at the end of the first week of November upcoming, in Our Barony of Tir-y-don, a grand tournament. The victor of said tournament shall be declared heir presumtive to the throne of Atlantia. Each combatant shall fight for the honor of a consort. The victor's consort shall likewise be named Our successor. We have heretofore invited several worthy gentles that We would hold up as examples of prowess, courtesy and nobility to enter the list. Now We would extend that invitation and summon all Our Dukes, Counts, Viscounts, Earls, Knights, Barons, Baronesses, and other gentles of coat armor to defend the strength of Our Kingdom by contending in Our Crown Tournament.
As We would not see one drop of Atlantian blood needelessly or impiously spilled, Our tournament shall be contested with weapons of peace. While thrusts to the armored body and limbs shall be permitted, We are of the opinion that thrusting to the face is properly reserved for war, and as such, is specifically disallowed. The finals of the tournament shall be fought best of five bouts. The senior shall choose first, and no weapon form may be employed more than once until and unless a fifth match is required to decide the outcome.
Letters of Intent to participate in Crown Tournament should be submitted to Us and the Kingdom Seneschal by October 15th. Letters must include the following:
SCA and Modern names of the cobatant and consort
SCA membership numbers for each
Mailing address, email address and phone numbers for each
We reserve the right to accept letters past the deadine up to and including the day of the tournament. While letters may be sent electronically, Her Majesty will be awarding a prize for the best hand-written/decorated letter of intent.

Cuan Rex, Padraigin Regina"

Man. Than things people have to do to establish a policy.
Moving mountains seems trite in comparison. You've got to hand it to people that are that much of a glutton for the punishment. (Not saying it's a thankless job, but it has to be emotionally and physically draining).
