WMA Glove as Gauntlet in Heavy

Post by uwhguy »

Is a WMA Glove legal as a demi gauntlet or behind the shield gauntlet in SCA Heavy?

I would imagine that would be treated similar to a street hockey glove.

I think it has a hard thumb and Duke Ragnarr has been using one for a shield glove for a while. I'd check with him.

BTW, he offered to go in on a split with one when these first came out and they just look way too modern for my taste.

I think he uses it for his demi too.

The more you tighten your grip, Governor Tarkin, they more they will squish through your fingers. So those gloves are probably a good idea...

You know those cookies we have on the Dark Side? The gauntlets are very good for keeping the crumbs off.

I wouldn't see why they wouldn't be. I use similar ones with even less padding under my gaunts....but I'd check with your local marshall 1st and then appeal it if they say no.

@Benedek, I want to use them as is, not add them to gauntlets. I wouldnt use them for greatsword or spear, but just for behind my shield or for my sword arm with a basket.

I know they are ok for combat archery... the pannels are just kevlar reinforcements so nothing hard in them at all.
I endup asking the MIC at pennsic the first time someone cameup for inspection...

Personaly I think they need more for heavy combat but thats my personal opinion.
Under the new rules it's good if your 4" from the edge of the shield other then that I would ask your KEM for their interpretation.

Knuckles are kevlar.
I would think because of that they might be uncomfortable against a shield.
That kevlar also shatters. I know a guy who took a shot to the hand that shattered the kevlar broke his hand I a few places.

They are fine for controlled drills against accidents.

We carry the original, actually Kevlar reinforced, non knock off of that glove.

I would not fight in or as a marshal pass it as hand protection alone for SCA heavy, it's not made for that.
