Shield Edging

Post by hivemind »

If I was to regularly offer 2" or 3" wide rawhide strips of whatever length you want for shield edging, and baggies of little cobbler's tacks to attach it with, is this something people would purchase? Shield edging kits? Maybe few bucks a foot and $5 for the tacks?

Or are people content to buy and unravel dog chews?

I would also suggest a 'how to'. Either something on your site or something you can mail/email to them.

Yes, I would buy the strips. Probably not the tacks.

Somebody might buy one, but I wouldn't make too great of a stock pile.
I never stay in one place for three of my opponent's blows. I also never let my opponent throw three unanswered blows. Standing in front of your opponent lets him perfect his pell technique. Most fighters are very good against a pell. - Duke Gyrth

tacks are a bad idea unless they are long enough to fold over on the back side. i attach my edging by sewing sinew through the face of the shield and back through the back.

I do the same

tacks just come out as the wood swells and shrinks

Stich the rawhide damp though so when it shrinks up it will be taught, make it last longer.

As long as your price was cheaper than me driving over to the Leather Factory I might by some.
I wouldn't buy the tacks either.

Agreed. I use nails... but I use ones long enough to clinch, and I'm still planning on starting to stitch it instead.

I'll pick some up Friday and get it cut up, and see what I need to make on it.

I'll keep my most excellent cobbler's nails for myself. :)
